Danish Conservative Party Leader Mona Juul Gains Momentum After Elections

Mona Juul, the chairwoman of the Conservative Party, has had a challenging spring, but the weekend’s election results have given her renewed courage. In this year’s European Parliament elections, the Conservative Party received 8.8 percent of the votes, making it the fourth largest party and significantly exceeding their expectations. This result marks an important milestone for Mona Juul, who took over as party leader in March after the sudden death of Søren Pape Poulsen. During her first party leader speech at the People’s Meeting, Mona Juul expressed great satisfaction with the election result. “It means a lot to have such a good election. It has been a very difficult spring for us. The election turned out better than I had expected in any way,” she said. According to Juul, the election result gives the party a stronger platform and more courage for the future.

Mona Juul emphasized that the Conservative Party will not change its policies despite the change in leadership, but hinted that adjustments could be made in other areas. In her speech, she also focused on the increasing trend of interruptions in political debates, which she referred to as “shout-violence.” She revealed that she herself had been threatened at a constitutional speech a few years ago at Himmelbjerget. This year’s People’s Meeting has also been marked by protesters, with a debate at the Free Press Society being disrupted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators. However, this was the only known disruption, according to the organizers of the People’s Meeting.

Mona Juul’s speech and highlighting of these issues demonstrate her commitment to ensuring a better political dialogue and combating disturbances at political events. Juul now stands stronger with the recent election result behind her and looks forward to further strengthening the Conservative Party’s position.
