To meet the need for faster processing of mink farmers’ compensation cases, Minister of Transport Thomas Danielsen (V) has introduced a new initiative. Officials who choose to work in the Mink Secretariat will receive an extra monthly salary of 5000 kroner. This offer is applicable to employees who commit to working in the secretariat’s departments in Viborg, Aalborg, Vejle, or Skanderborg for at least one and a half years. “It is a temporary but necessary task that needs to be addressed,” explains Thomas Danielsen in an interview with DR. The initiative is part of a larger strategy to speed up the process of paying compensation to mink farmers after their industry was affected by the government’s decision to cull all minks in Denmark due to COVID-19 concerns. Although the offer is open to employees from other ministries, it has so far only resulted in 21 new hires, while the goal is to attract up to 80 additional employees. The Minister of Transport hopes that the financial incentive will attract the necessary resources to handle the many cases efficiently and fairly. The Mink Secretariat, which is part of the Danish Transport Authority, plays a central role in the administration of these compensation cases, and with the new initiatives, it is expected that processing times will be significantly reduced.
