Yesterday afternoon, the outer walls of the historical building Børsen collapsed, which had previously been devastated by a violent fire earlier in the week. It is especially the walls facing Børsgade and the gable close to Christiansborg Palace Square that have been affected. The incident occurred after the fire alarm at Børsen was triggered early Tuesday morning. Just six minutes after the alarm, the emergency services on site were already aware that it was a serious situation. Around an hour later, at 08:30, the building’s characteristic spire collapsed as a result of the intense flames. So far, it is unclear if anyone has been injured as a result of the walls collapsing. Rescue teams are working on site to secure the area and investigate any potential injuries.
Images from the scene show extensive damage to the famous building, which is a central part of Copenhagen’s history and skyline. Børsen, originally built in the 17th century, has long been a symbol of trade and economy in Denmark. Authorities and emergency services are still assessing the extent of the damages and working to stabilize the building to prevent further damage. It is expected that some time will pass before a full report on the incident and its consequences is available.
This tragic event has raised concerns among Copenhageners and history enthusiasts across the country, as Børsen is not only a building but also an integral part of Denmark’s cultural heritage.
