Large Scissors Stuck on Copenhagen Building Halts Construction Work

A large pair of scissors, which earlier on Friday fell and got stuck between the scaffolding and the Børsen building in Copenhagen, has led to a temporary suspension of all cutting work on site. This creates an unstable situation that requires special safety measures, the Copenhagen Fire Department informs. According to operations manager Tim Ole Simonsen, the scissors are trapped at a height equivalent to the 2nd floor and weigh several tons, posing a risk of further movement of the scaffolding. “We cannot risk the safety of our crew, so all work must be done at a distance,” he explains during a press conference. The emergency services are now planning to use cranes and other machinery to carefully attach chains to the scissors and lift them up. This process must be carried out without direct human intervention due to the risk of the scissors falling further. There is no timeframe yet for when the cutting operation can resume, but a new cutter is on its way from Jutland and is expected to arrive later on Friday evening. “Only once the scissors are secured and removed can we resume work to stabilize the scaffolding,” says Simonsen. The situation has not caused extensive damage to the part of the building where the scissors fell, but the emergency services are still dealing with minor fires in the building, which will continue in the coming days. There is also a continued high risk of collapse of the outer walls in the damaged part of the building. The operation at Børsen will continue with great caution, and the emergency services will continuously assess and adjust their strategy to ensure both structural integrity and the safety of all involved.
