On Monday, the day before a fierce fire ravaged the historic building Børsen in Copenhagen, an advertising agency was ordered to remove an illegally placed advertisement for safety shoes brand Airtox. The advertisement was placed on scaffolding surrounding part of the building. The Environmental and Technical Administration of the Municipality of Copenhagen had not granted permission for the hanging of the advertisement, which is necessary according to municipal rules. This information comes from a written response from the administration to Ekstra Bladet. Consequently, the administration issued a directive to the advertising agency to immediately remove the advertisement. The fire that broke out the day after the directive caused extensive damage to Børsen, and the flames also damaged the mentioned advertisement, which was hanging towards Børsbroen. Despite the dramatic event, the administration has not yet reported the advertising agency to the police for their actions. It is still unclear whether the illegal advertisement in any way contributed to the extent or start of the fire. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, and the results are eagerly awaited as they may have implications for future safety measures regarding similar structures and advertisement placements in the city. The Municipality of Copenhagen and relevant authorities will continue to investigate the case to ensure that all rules and regulations are followed, so that similar incidents can be avoided in the future.
