In Copenhagen, a dramatic incident has occurred at Børsen, where a heavy hydraulic scissor lift has fallen down and become stuck between the building and a scaffolding. Despite several attempts, the emergency services have now given up trying to remove the lift, which remains hanging several meters above the ground. The incident occurred earlier on Friday when the lift broke free from a crane during the dismantling of the scaffolding. Incident commander Tim Ole Simonsen from the Capital Region Fire Service explained at a press conference on Friday evening that it has been impossible to get personnel close to the lift for safety reasons. “We have tried using a crane to get hold of it. It has been a complex operation,” he said. Despite the stuck lift, work continues to dismantle the scaffolding. “We are doing it knowing that the lift will likely come loose at some point from that floor,” Simonsen added. The situation at Børsen has been further complicated as the building was hit by a large fire earlier in the week, which led to the collapse of the building’s spire and parts of the outer walls. The fire occurred during a renovation, and the cause has not yet been determined. According to Brian Mikkelsen, CEO of Danish Chamber of Commerce (Dansk Erhverv), which owns the building, it has been possible to save 99 percent of the cultural artifacts located in Børsen. “Around 45 percent of Børsen remains,” he stated. No individuals have been injured in connection with either the fire or the subsequent events, including the collapse of the outer wall and the now stuck lift. The emergency services and the involved teams are continuing to work at the site to secure the area and minimize the risk of further damage to the historic building.
