Billund Airport is in the process of calculating the economic consequences following Saturday’s bomb threat, which forced the airport to close for ten hours. According to the airport’s head of communications, Dan Prangsgaard, between 8,000 and 11,000 people were either directly or indirectly affected by the incident. The closure has had significant economic implications for both the airport and its partners. “It will take some time before we can put a figure on what such a day costs, because there are a lot of actors involved,” Prangsgaard told Ritzau. The airport is now working to determine lost sales in shops and restaurants, lost parking revenues, and extra costs related to employees.
To gain a comprehensive overview of the financial losses, Billund Airport is awaiting data from various actors, including airlines and handling companies responsible for baggage handling. “We need to figure out how many employees were at work, and how many extra hours they stayed. We also need to find out if there were any employees who had a shift but couldn’t show up,” Prangsgaard explained. This extensive financial cleanup is crucial to understand the full impact of the bomb threat, not only for the airport but also for the many individuals and businesses affected by the closure.
