Copenhagen Police Technicians Investigate Cause of Børsen Building Fire

Following an extensive fire at Børsen in Copenhagen, police technicians are now ready to step in and investigate the cause of the incident. After the Capital Region Emergency Management has completed their extinguishing work, the area is now turning into a construction site where technicians can begin their work. Deputy Police Commissioner Anders Ellegaard from the National Crime Investigation Center (NKC) explains that the technicians do not yet have access to the actual site of the fire, but expect this to happen very soon. “We are not inside the scaffolding and walls yet, but we expect to gain access either later today or tomorrow,” he says.

When the technicians gain access, they will focus on determining what caused the fire. This will involve a thorough examination of the fire site and the use of advanced technology and methods, including possibly the deployment of arson dogs that can detect traces of flammable liquids. “Our toolbox is wide open, and we will use all available tools to determine the cause of the fire,” Ellegaard adds. Cooperation with contractors on site will also be crucial, as heavy materials need to be cleared so that the technicians can safely carry out their work.

This technical investigation will be accompanied by a tactical investigation led by the Copenhagen Police, which will focus on witness statements, images, and videos from the incident to narrow down the area where the investigation needs to be intensified. It is still too early in the investigation for the police to speculate on specific causes of the fire, but with the work of the technicians, they hope to soon provide answers to the many questions raised by the incident.
