A new working group consisting of award-winning Danish authors has been established by Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt (Liberal Party) to strengthen the position of Danish authors both nationally and internationally. The group will advise on improvements to the authors’ working and salary conditions, especially in light of the challenges and opportunities of the digital book market. Among the members of the working group are renowned names such as Iben Mondrup, Thomas Korsgaard, Leonora Christina Skov, Christian Mørk, and Josefine Klougart. These literary figures have been selected to contribute their experiences and perspectives to the development of a comprehensive literature action plan.
“The digitization of the book market must not take the bread out of the mouths of authors and publishers. Instead, it should open up new opportunities that we as a society must seize,” said Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt. He emphasizes the importance of adapting to the new digital realities while ensuring fair conditions for creators. The working group will also address the issue of artificial intelligence and its influence on the development of literature, a topic that is becoming increasingly relevant as technology advances.
This initiative is part of a larger strategy to boost Danish literature both at home and on the international stage, with the hope of making Danish books a success in exports.
