In a time where international relations are more tense than ever, the Danish Defense’s preferred logistics company, Scan Global Logistics, is facing sharp criticism. The company continues to transport goods through Russia for other customers, despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, which has led many of their competitors to avoid the Russian railways. This practice has drawn attention and criticism from several political parties in Denmark. The Ministry of Defense has not yet taken an official position on the matter but has initiated an investigation to clarify all the details regarding the cooperation with Scan Global Logistics. “We are in the process of uncovering the actual circumstances and therefore have no further comments at this time,” the ministry states. There is widespread dissatisfaction from a political standpoint. Bergur Løkke Rasmussen from the Moderates directly expresses disapproval of the company’s actions. “I do not think the Danish defense, and therefore the Danish taxpayers, should contribute to a company that supports Russia,” he tells MobilityWatch. Søren Søndergaard, the defense spokesperson for the Red-Green Alliance, is also critical and wonders why the company continues to use the Russian railways. On the other side of the political spectrum, Christian Friis Bach from the Radical Left Party urges the Defense to engage in dialogue with the company to find a solution. Amidst the criticism, Scan Global Logistics’ CEO, Allan Melgaard, defends the company’s operations in Russia. He points out that there is a high demand from companies in Denmark, the Nordic region, and the rest of Europe, and emphasizes that all rules and regulations are being followed. “As long as we comply with the law and regulations, I actually think we have tried to do what needs to be done,” Melgaard tells MobilityWatch. The case continues to develop, and the Danish Ministry of Defense’s investigation will likely shed more light on the exact circumstances surrounding the cooperation with Scan Global Logistics.
