Former Nye Borgerlige member announces formation of new political party

Lars Boje Mathiesen, former member of the New Conservatives (*Nye Borgerlige*) and now an independent in the Danish Parliament, has announced the establishment of a new political party. This comes after a period of disagreements and conflicts within his former party, culminating in his expulsion in March 2023. In a recent post on Facebook, Mathiesen stated that he plans to present the new party “either at the end of June or after the summer break in August.” He expressed a desire to create a party that will challenge the existing political system, which he believes no longer serves the interests of the average Dane, but rather those of politicians themselves.

Mathiesen was known for his critical stance towards the political establishment, a stance that led to his dismissal as chairman of the New Conservatives. His new political movement aims to attract voters who are dissatisfied with the current political culture. Details about the new party’s name and its specific political line are still being worked out, and Mathiesen has submitted an application to the election board to approve the party’s name. Only after approval can the party begin gathering the necessary voter declarations to stand in upcoming elections.

This development in Danish politics shows a continued trend towards fragmentation and the emergence of new parties seeking to represent specific segments of the population who feel overlooked by traditional parties. Mathiesen’s new party is likely to appeal to voters who want significant changes in the way the country is governed.
