Fredericia has welcomed a new mayor, Christian Bro (Social Democrats), who is taking over the position after Steen Wrist, who has accepted a position as director at Laugesens Have, a course and conference center in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality. The change was officially decided by a unanimous city council during Monday’s council meeting. Christian Bro, who has been a member of the Fredericia City Council for 13 years, was chosen as the Social Democrats’ mayoral candidate in March after an internal battle. His appointment was expected, as he had already been earmarked earlier in the year as the successor to Steen Wrist, who had announced that he would not stand for re-election in the next local elections in 2025.
In a press release, Christian Bro stated that he will continue the stable course and the good political dialogue that has characterized the municipality under Steen Wrist. “My main task will be to ensure a good, healthy, and robust municipal economy,” said the new mayor. Fredericia Municipality has experienced similar mayoral changes in the middle of a term before. In 2021, Steen Wrist took over the mayoral position from Jacob Bjerregaard (Social Democrats), who also left his post to take on a new job. In the latest local elections, Steen Wrist received 3,611 personal votes, equivalent to 13.9% of the votes in the municipality, while Christian Bro received 360 personal votes. The Social Democrats experienced a setback of 17 percentage points in this election.
