Danish Education Ministry Considers AI in School Exams Reform

Amidst the rapid development of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, an expert group is now proposing a change in the execution of school exams. The group, which has investigated the implications of technologies like ChatGPT, recommends the introduction of exams both with and without the use of artificial intelligence. The Ministry of Children and Education has published the recommendations, which are aimed at both primary schools and youth and adult education. Minister of Children and Education, Mattias Tesfaye, emphasizes that digital development is a permanent part of society, and it is essential for students to learn how to navigate and critically use these new technologies. “It is an important educational task to teach children and young people to relate to and use technology critically, and it demands how we equip students for it in education,” says Tesfaye. He adds that it is crucial to be able to trust exam results, which requires that some exams are held without digital tools to assess students’ own skills and knowledge. The details of how the exams will be organized with and without technological aids are still being developed, and further information is expected in the coming months.
