SF Excluded from Danish Disability Agreement Negotiations Amidst Controversy

In a dramatic turn in the negotiations on a new disability agreement, SF has been excluded from the process. This step was taken Wednesday evening, after the negotiations intensified, and SF’s positions turned out to be incompatible with the government’s proposal. Charlotte Broman Mølbæk, SF’s disability spokesperson, confirmed the exclusion to Ritzau and expressed great frustration over the situation. “We have been asked to take our good clothes and leave,” she said. According to Mølbæk, SF has had major concerns about several aspects of the government’s proposal, especially proposed cuts in the disability area and increased use of force. Social and Housing Minister Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil (S) has led the negotiations, where only a limited number of parties, including Radikale (The Radical Liberal Party) and Konservative (The Conservative People’s Party), have participated along with the government. SF’s exclusion marks a clear break in the cooperation on this important social agreement. Mølbæk pointed out that the government’s proposal involves interventions that the party cannot support, including confinement, locking up, and video surveillance of disabled individuals, elderly people, and placed young people. “We simply could not accept an agreement based on such principles,” she explained. This development raises questions about the future direction of disability policy in Denmark and underscores the deep political divides that can arise in negotiations on such sensitive topics. It is still unclear how SF’s absence will affect the final agreement and the implementation of the new policies in the disability area.
