After a maternity leave of just over three months, Christian Rabjerg Madsen is ready to resume his role as spokesperson for the Social Democrats. This position, which he has held before, was temporarily filled by Rasmus Stoklund while Madsen was on leave. Rasmus Stoklund has expressed his gratitude for the time as a stand-in on Facebook and is looking forward to handing the baton back to Madsen. “It has been exciting, and I have greatly appreciated working closely with Mette Frederiksen again. But on Wednesday, my good colleague Christian Rabjerg Madsen returns to the helm after leave with his third child, and then it’s changeover day,” Stoklund writes.
Christian Rabjerg Madsen previously held the position as spokesperson from February to May 2022 before being appointed Minister of the Interior and Housing. After the general election in November 2022, he resumed the position as spokesperson. His return to the Parliament also means goodbye to the substitute Theis Kylling Hommeltoft, who had stepped in during Madsen’s leave.
The role of spokesperson is central in Danish politics, as it is often the spokesperson who acts as the party’s representative in various political and personal matters. This can be a challenging task, especially for a party in government. Rasmus Stoklund will return to his former position as education and research policy spokesperson, a role he held during the SVM government. With Christian Rabjerg Madsen’s return, a continued strong representation of the Social Democrats in the political debates in the Parliament is expected.
