In a surprising turn of events, Copenhagen Airport experienced an unexpected work stoppage last Saturday when cargo handlers at SAS Ground Handling (SGH) decided to strike due to dissatisfaction with their work schedules. According to Henrik Bay-Clausen, chairman of 3F Kastrup, the main reason for the strike was the poor work schedules and a demand for better working hours arrangements, including more weekends off and more stable schedules. The work stoppage began at 07:30 and lasted until 09:40 when work resumed. In the meantime, passengers had to wait longer than usual for their baggage, and around 25 departures were delayed by 20 to 60 minutes.
A spokesperson for SAS Denmark stated that the airport was working hard to get the baggage to the waiting passengers and described the situation as an illegal work stoppage. Further comments on the situation would be addressed internally and in relevant forums with the management. This incident highlights the importance of dialogue between management and employees to avoid similar situations in the future, which can disrupt the travel plans of many.
