Investigation of Major Landslide Near Randers Costs State Millions

An extensive investigation of a major landslide near Randers, which has been ongoing since January, has already cost the state nearly two million Danish kroner. This is revealed in an article in Berlingske, which has obtained access to invoices from the State Attorney (Kammeradvokaten) to the Ministry of Environment. In January, the State Attorney was asked to investigate whether other companies besides Nordic Waste could be held responsible for the environmental damage caused by the landslide. Additionally, it will be examined whether individual persons in the management or others associated with Nordic Waste can be held personally accountable. So far, the State Attorney has logged 737.2 hours on the case, and the costs have exceeded 1.9 million Danish kroner. Despite the large sums and many working hours, it is still unclear when the investigation will be completed.

The Ministry of Environment has not been able to provide a specific timeframe for when they expect the investigation to be finished, and it is also not possible to say what the final bill will amount to. The case of the landslide and the subsequent investigations highlight the complexity and costs of environmental damage and liability issues, which can drag on over long periods and involve significant resources.
