Sunday afternoon, there have been reports of unstable operation of the identification system MitID, affecting many citizens across the country. The Agency for Digitisation (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) has confirmed the issues on their website and is working intensively to resolve the situation. According to the agency’s announcement, some users may experience difficulties logging into both public and private services, including borger.dk (a government portal for citizens) and various online banks. Moreover, there may be challenges in approving online payments via MitID. The precise number of affected users has not been disclosed yet, and there is no specific timeline given for when MitID is expected to function normally again. “The provider is working diligently to stabilize operations, and we will keep the public updated,” the Agency for Digitisation stated. On the website digitaliser.dk, where ongoing updates on operation information for public systems are provided, it was reported at 3:36 PM that MitID was unstable or completely inaccessible.
This is not the first time MitID has experienced technical issues. Most recently, at the end of February, the system was hit by unstable operation, believed to have been caused by a denial-of-service attack, reported the Agency for Digitisation to DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) back then. The Agency for Digitisation recommends that users stay informed through their website for the latest information on the situation.
