Residents of Snekkersten find new homes after evacuation crisis

Residents of Snekkersten have found new homes after evacuation. In early February, residents of the residential area Stævnen in Snekkersten were hastily evacuated due to serious safety risks at their homes. Now, all affected families have found new homes in other departments under Boliggården, which manages the properties.

The evacuation occurred after it was discovered that the buildings were at risk of “collapsing like a house of cards,” according to a statement from Boliggården on February 19. This drastic decision was made following a review conducted by the engineering company Sweco, which found significant deviations from the applicable standards in the concrete structures from 1984.

Although Boliggården was not legally obligated to rehouse the residents, they chose to offer new housing to the evacuees. This resulted in a temporary rental stop, which has now been lifted, and Boliggården is once again renting out properties to members on the waiting list.

Some of the rehousing options offered were in the residential area Nøjsomhed, also managed by Boliggården. However, this area is known to be burdened, and several residents expressed dissatisfaction with this solution. During an information meeting on February 15, it was announced that a large number of residents could expect to be rehoused in Nøjsomhed, which further raised concerns among the residents. Several attendees, including Trine Jørgensen, who had lived in Stævnen for 33 years, cried during the meeting.

Boliggården has since held a meeting with Landsbyggefonden (The Danish Building Foundation) to discuss the future of the affected buildings, and further investigations have been requested before a comprehensive plan can be developed. In the meantime, residents have been offered crisis support from local emergency preparedness experts to help them through this difficult period.

It is still unclear when or if the residents will be able to return to their original homes.
