Copenhagen Police have issued a warning on Sunday evening that a scaffolding at the historical building Børsen in Copenhagen is at risk of collapsing due to damage caused by a storm. Børsen, located close to Christiansborg, was earlier hit by a fire during renovation work this week, which worsened the situation. Duty officer Michael Andersen from Copenhagen Police says that there have been no reports of injuries so far, but the police are taking no chances. “We have ensured that additional support is being put in place to stabilize the scaffolding. The wind is strong, but so far the scaffolding has held,” he says.
As a safety measure, Børsgaden is now closed off at the National Bank to prevent any accidents if the scaffolding were to give in to the wind pressure. The fire that broke out last Tuesday destroyed parts of Børsen’s iconic dragon spire and exterior walls, causing damage to the surrounding scaffolding as well. Cleanup efforts have been underway since the fire, and now the strong wind adds an additional challenge for the safety teams involved. The police urge people to stay away from the area and follow the closures and instructions that have been put in place. The situation is being closely monitored, and further measures will be implemented if deemed necessary to ensure the safety of both the scaffolding and the surrounding areas.
