In a new wave of accusations, Venstre’s (The Liberal Party of Denmark) Sophie Løhde has once again been criticized for creating a work environment characterized by fear and humiliation. Several sources have described to Ekstra Bladet how Løhde, who has been a central figure in Danish politics, allegedly treated her employees in a way that has led several to leave their jobs. According to the reports, Løhde has employed a leadership style that includes public scoldings and a choleric behavior that has created a culture of fear among the employees. This has resulted in staff feeling the need to shield each other from meetings with the minister to avoid confrontations.
Sophie Løhde herself denies the accusations and argues that she simply sets high demands for both herself and her employees. She points out that it is necessary to achieve the best results in her work. Løhde emphasizes that she is aware of her leadership style and is willing to learn from past mistakes. This case is not an isolated incident. Back in November 2022, B.T. reported similar conditions where Løhde was accused of creating an unpleasant work environment. Despite Løhde’s assurances of improvement, new testimonies suggest that there have not been significant changes in the culture around her. Most recently, Magnus Ulveman, who was employed as a special advisor in the Ministry of Health, left his position after only four months. He has not wanted to publicly comment on his resignation.
These repeated accusations raise questions about the leadership culture in the upper echelons of Danish politics and the psychological consequences for the employees working under such conditions.
