This year, there is excitement in the air as the Annual Reumert Awards will be presented on June 20 at Odeon in Odense. Among the nominees, we find both new talents and well-established actors such as Lars Mikkelsen, Bodil Jørgensen, and Iben Hjejle, who are all in the running to receive one of the most coveted accolades in the performing arts industry. This year’s award ceremony marks a special change as they have chosen to abolish gender-specific categories. Additionally, the Reumert jury has introduced two new award categories to ensure a broader recognition of talent within the theater world.
In the category of Best Leading Role, Iben Hjejle has caught the jury’s attention with her role in “The Doctor” at Folketeatret, while Ina-Miriam Rosenbaum is nominated for her performance in “Arendt – Seeing in the Dark,” and Patrick A. Hansen for his role in “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” Another interesting category is Best Ensemble, where Lars Mikkelsen and Ian Burns are nominated for their roles in “The Dumb Waiter,” and Bodil Jørgensen along with Jens Albinus for their performances in “Inside the Walls.” Unlike previous years where a single performance has often dominated the nominations, this year there are four different productions, each receiving two nominations: “Margrethe I,” “It’s so cute I’m gonna die,” “Inside the Walls,” and “Traum.”
The Reumert Awards are not just a celebration of individual achievements, but also a recognition of the ability of theater art to touch and engage audiences. With hosts like Rikke Westi and Marie Knudsen Fogh, who is herself nominated for Best Solo Performance, the stage is set for an evening full of festivities and artistic celebration. Since 2021, CPH Stage and the Danish Theater (Dansk Teater) have been at the forefront of the event, which continues to be an important part of the Danish cultural scene.
