In a sharp and direct speech, the political spokesperson of the Red-Green Alliance (Enhedslisten), Pelle Dragsted, has pointed out Liberal Alliance and their leader, Alex Vanopslagh, as a greater threat to Denmark than the current government. The speech, which was delivered at the Red-Green Alliance’s annual meeting, marks a clear ideological battleground between the two parties, standing on opposite sides of the political spectrum.
Dragsted, who recently took on the role as the de facto leader of the party, used a significant portion of his speech to criticize Liberal Alliance’s political agenda, which he describes as “dangerous.” While personally liking Vanopslagh, he emphasized that this does not change the political reality. “I actually quite like Alex Vanopslagh. He is a nice colleague and a talented guy. But make no mistake: He is a talented guy with a dangerous political project,” said Dragsted.
The Red-Green Alliance and Liberal Alliance strongly disagree on several key political issues, including economic policy, climate change, pensions, as well as conditions for employees in the welfare system and the eldercare sector. These differences paint a picture of two parties that will stand as direct opponents in the upcoming political battle for Denmark’s future.
According to the latest polls from Voxmeter, Liberal Alliance is projected to receive 15.3% of the votes, which would give them 24 seats in parliament. This is a significant increase from the last election, where the party received 7.9% of the votes. Meanwhile, the three government parties – the Social Democrats, Venstre, and the Conservatives – are set to receive 35.7% of the votes, equivalent to 63 seats.
In his speech, Dragsted warned that the battle for Denmark’s future leadership is well underway, promising that the Red-Green Alliance will give Liberal Alliance tough resistance on all political fronts. “So let me be clear and not to be misunderstood: Dear Alex. The battle for a Denmark after the center-right government has begun. And I promise you that you will face constant and resolute ideological resistance from us in the Red-Green Alliance,” concluded Dragsted.
