Allerød Municipality will need to find a new mayor after the next municipal election in 2025, as the current mayor, Karsten Längerich from the Venstre party, has announced that he will not seek reelection. Längerich has been mayor since 2018 and now states that he wants to try new challenges outside the mayor’s office. In a Facebook post, Längerich explains his decision by expressing his desire to use his experience and the connections he has built in new ways. “It has been a rewarding journey for me to be mayor and work for democracy and our local community,” he writes, adding that he is making the decision to step down while still having many years left in his working life. Karsten Längerich was first elected to the position after the municipal election in 2017 and will have served eight years as mayor by the time he steps down. He has not yet decided whether he will run for a seat as a regular member of the city council, but has made it clear that he does not intend to enter national politics. Längerich’s decision to step down has been announced well in advance of the next election to give the Venstre party the opportunity to find and choose a new mayoral candidate. In the latest municipal election in 2021, he received 768 personal votes, which was the third-highest number in the municipality.
