Danish artists win bid for ‘Lollands Øre’ landmark project

After an intense competition period of three months, it has now been decided who will be responsible for the construction of a new significant landmark on Lolland. Artist Amitai Romm and the architectural firm Djernes & Bell have won the right to realize their project ‘Lolland’s Ear’ near the Rødby South Motorway, close to Ottelundevej. The project, which has secured funding of 3,750,000 Danish kroner from, among others, the Ny Carlsberg Foundation, involves the construction of three large sound sculptures. These sculptures are designed to be integrated naturally into the landscape as a form of land art. The sculptures will act as acoustic mirrors, capturing and amplifying sounds from the surroundings, including the constant hum of the motorway, birdsong, and sounds from visitors. The Ny Carlsberg Foundation describes that the sculptures, with a height of over 12 meters, will be impossible to overlook and will attract attention from both passersby in cars and pedestrians in the vicinity. ‘Lolland’s Ear’ is part of the larger initiative ‘Place Counts X’, which includes nine different art projects around Denmark. In total, nearly 39 million kroner has been invested in these projects, according to information from TV 2 East. This new initiative is expected to add a unique attraction to the area, enriching the daily life of the local population and attracting visitors from other regions.
