With the prospect of heavy traffic and potential congestion, the Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) is urging Danish drivers to plan extra time for their journeys during the upcoming Ascension Day holiday. Especially on the most popular departure days, Wednesday and Thursday, increased traffic is expected on Danish roads. According to the Road Directorate’s website, traffic will be most intense between 2 pm and 7 pm on Wednesday and from 11 am to 2 pm on Thursday. During these times, many families will head towards summer house areas, which can lead to extended travel times and congestion on the roads.
The most trafficked routes mainly include stretches from the capital area towards Jutland through Funen and Sjællands Odde. Additionally, heavy traffic can be expected on the Hillerod Motorway and the Southern Jutland Motorway near Kolding. Summer house areas along the west coast of Jutland, in Skagen, and in North Zealand are among the most popular destinations where many Danes go to enjoy their holiday.
The Road Directorate therefore recommends that drivers plan their journeys outside of the busiest times and allow extra time for their trip to avoid stress and potential delays. By taking these recommendations into account, the Road Directorate hopes to minimize traffic issues and ensure a more pleasant start to the holiday for everyone.
