The government has announced a new financial support package of 250 million Danish kroner for Ukraine, which will be used for emergency aid for the most vulnerable citizens in the war-torn country. This decision was announced in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the money will be channeled through the Ukraine Fund. Dan Jørgensen, Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, emphasized the importance of the support during a meeting with European ministers in Brussels, where the situation in Ukraine was a central topic. “With 15 million people in urgent need of assistance, it is crucial that we act quickly and effectively,” he said. The funds are earmarked to cover basic needs such as food, medicine, clean water, and shelter. Additionally, there will be a special focus on protecting vulnerable groups such as children and women, who are particularly at risk under the current conditions. “It is essential that we ensure a safe environment for the children and continue their education under these difficult circumstances,” Jørgensen added.
The support will also include initiatives aimed at preparing Ukrainians for the upcoming winter, where temperatures can drop to extreme minus degrees. “It is important that we stand with Ukraine and continue our support as long as the war persists,” the minister said, adding that this is likely not the last financial support package from Denmark. The money will be distributed through various international emergency aid organizations, including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which has an active presence in Ukraine. This ensures that the aid reaches those who need it most and that resources are used effectively. With this new support package, Denmark once again confirms its commitment to the international effort to help Ukraine through this deeply tragic and challenging time.
