The Sølund Music Festival, known as the world’s largest music festival for people with developmental disabilities, has just secured its continuation through a lightning fundraiser. In just a few days, the necessary 250,000 Danish kroner was raised to save the festival, which has been an annual event for 40 years. The story of the festival’s imminent closure and its subsequent rescue was first reported by TV 2 Østjylland. It was entrepreneur Jonathan Løw who initiated the fundraising after the news of the festival’s possible shutdown came out in March. To the great relief of many, the fundraiser not only reached its goal, but exceeded it with a total sum of 275,000 kroner. Jonathan Løw expressed his gratitude and surprise at the large contribution from donors. “We have raised more than the goal, which is absolutely fantastic and overwhelming,” he wrote in an email to TV 2 Østjylland.
Over the years, the Sølund Music Festival has offered a unique musical and social space where people with developmental disabilities can enjoy music and socializing in safe surroundings. The continuation of the festival ensures that this tradition can continue, to the delight of both participants and their families.
