After revelations in a TV 2 documentary about serious abuses of power at the Nexus children’s home in Jægerspris, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Housing, and the Elderly has now chosen to report both the current and former management of the institution to the police. The report also includes several former employees who are accused of committing violence against the children placed there. The documentary, which aired on TV 2, contained shocking testimonies from several current and former residents, who spoke of repeated instances of violence and degrading treatment.
These accounts have caused a great outcry and prompted Social Minister Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil to react strongly. “Under no circumstances should children and young people be subjected to violence and degradation while in care outside of their homes. What has come to light in the documentary is completely unacceptable and must be thoroughly investigated,” Rosenkrantz-Theil stated in a press release. The minister has instructed her ministry to ensure that all relevant aspects from the documentary are reported to the police so that they can assess whether charges should be brought against those involved.
The case has raised concerns at the highest level, and there is a clear expectation that a thorough judicial investigation will now follow to clarify the extent and seriousness of the alleged abuses at the Nexus children’s home.
