In a recent phone call, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the possibilities of expediting the donation of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. This comes in light of the ongoing conflict in the region, where Ukraine is facing significant military challenges. During the conversation, which took place on Wednesday, they discussed how and when the Danish F-16 jets can be delivered faster than originally planned.
“We also discussed the decisions necessary to expedite the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine,” Zelensky posted on the social media platform X after the call. Denmark has committed to donating a total of 19 F-16 jets to Ukraine, and the first of these are scheduled to arrive in the summer. However, it is still unclear whether the specific Danish jets were referred to during the conversation between Frederiksen and Zelensky.
In addition to Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands have also announced plans to donate F-16 jets to the war-torn country. These international contributions come as part of a broader effort to support Ukraine in the conflict. To prepare the Ukrainian pilots to handle the advanced fighter jets, a training program has been launched at Skrydstrup Air Base. This training started in August last year and is a vital part of the preparations for integrating the new jets into Ukraine’s defense structure.
This development in military support for Ukraine marks an important step in the international response to the conflict in the region. It also highlights Denmark’s and other countries’ continued commitment to supporting Ukraine in this difficult time.
