Danish citizens can now manage and pay public debts online

Starting this Tuesday, Danish citizens can now log in and get an overview of their debt to the public sector and pay it off themselves. This is possible through a new self-service solution launched by the Debt Agency (Gældsstyrelsen), which allows payments via both MobilePay and credit cards. The new service is part of the agency’s latest debt collection system, PSRM, where the majority of new personal debts such as court taxes, child support, and student loan debts will now be consolidated. Previously, citizens had to contact the Debt Agency directly to find out about their debts, but with the new system, they can easily access this information online.

Kristian Ryom, Deputy Director of Citizen and Business Contact at the Debt Agency, stated in a press release: “We are constantly working on creating user-friendly solutions that make it easier to get information about and pay off debts to the public sector. Therefore, I am pleased that we can now offer this option, where citizens can see and pay off their debts themselves.” However, it is important to note that certain types of debt, especially business debts, will continue to be collected through the agency’s other system, DMI. For these types of debts, it will still be necessary to contact the Debt Agency to get an overview. The Debt Agency is working on integrating these types of debts into the new debt overview in the future. This will further simplify the process for all citizens who want to get a handle on their financial obligations to the state.
