The interest in the Eurovision Song Contest seems to be on the rise in Denmark, as viewer numbers for the grand final on May 11 this year showed a significant increase compared to last year. According to the latest figures from the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), 543,000 Danes tuned in to the final, which is a notable increase from the 375,000 viewers who watched the final in 2023. This positive trend was also reflected in the viewer numbers for the second semi-final, which was held earlier in the week, where 630,000 viewers tuned in to watch the Danish entry, Saba, perform the song “Sand”. This is also an increase from last year, when 470,000 viewers watched the semi-final with Danish participation.
Despite the increased interest in the preliminary rounds, Denmark did not manage to qualify for the final this year. Saba finished as number 12 in the semi-final and did not advance. The winner of Eurovision 2024 was Switzerland’s Nemo with the song “The Code”, which managed to charm both the audience and the jury on the night. Although the viewer numbers for the Eurovision final are still far from the 1,095,000 viewers who watched in 2019, this year’s figures suggest that the interest in Eurovision is still alive in Denmark. This could indicate that Eurovision is once again gaining ground among the Danes after a few years of declining viewership.
