In a shocking development, it has come to light that the former collaborator of the Danish political party Enhedslisten, the Palestinian organization DFLP (Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine), was behind the execution of a 21-year-old Tanzanian intern during a terrorist attack in Israel on October 7th last year. The young man, Joshua Mollel, was interning at a dairy farm in Kibbutz Nahal Oz when he was abducted and later killed. Enhedslisten, which has previously supported DFLP through Danish development aid, has now severed all ties with the organization following the revelations.
Recordings and analyses of videos from the attack show that it was the armed wing of DFLP, the Martyr Omar Al Qassem Brigades, that was responsible for Mollel’s murder. The videos document how Mollel was abducted and brutally executed. This case has caused a great uproar, with several members of Enhedslisten proposing to resume cooperation with DFLP, but this proposal was rejected at the party’s annual meeting. Enhedslisten’s foreign affairs spokesperson, Trine Pertou Mach, has expressed deep dismay over the incident and confirmed that cutting ties with DFLP was the right decision.
The Tanzanian embassy in Israel has reported that they are still working to repatriate Mollel’s body so that his family can hold a proper burial. Joshua Mollel’s death has left his family and friends in deep sorrow, with his father, Loitu Mollel, publicly expressing his pain and frustration over the loss of his son. The case has raised serious questions about Enhedslisten’s past collaborations and how Danish aid funds have been utilized. The party has reassured that no Danish taxpayer money has gone towards DFLP’s armed activities, but only towards civilian projects in the West Bank.
Enhedslisten has strongly condemned all forms of terrorism and war crimes and continues to review their international cooperation policies in light of these events.
