During their state visit to Norway, King Frederik and Queen Mary chose to use public transportation for an outing in Østmarka National Park, highlighting their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. Together with the Norwegian crown prince couple and the environment ministers from both countries, the Danish royal couple took the metro to the park, located near Oslo’s city center. The metro, which was closed to regular passengers for this special occasion, only took 19 minutes. They then continued their journey with an electric bus to the national park.
Østmarka National Park, Norway’s first urban national park, was established last year, with large parts of the area being protected to preserve the vulnerable nature. The visit gave the royal couple a unique opportunity to experience how nature conservation can be combined with outdoor activities, allowing city residents to enjoy the green spaces. The park offers activities such as skiing in winter and hiking and cycling in summer, attracting many visitors.
This initiative by the royal couple demonstrates a growing trend among the world’s royals to promote environmentally friendly transportation options and emphasize the importance of sustainability.
