Next week, the streets of Copenhagen will be adorned with a kilometer-long avenue of flags to celebrate the birthday of King Frederik. From Kongens Nytorv to Rådhuspladsen, red and white flags will flutter in the wind, a gesture arranged by the Copenhagen Chamber of Commerce (KCC). The director of the organization, Michael Gatter, stated in a press release that it is an honor to revive this beautiful tradition, which demonstrates the business community’s pride and respect for the royal family. “It is a festive tribute to our king, which we are proud to present,” he said. The flag avenue will be visible from the 20th to the 26th of May, when the king turns 56. The event is not only a tribute to the king, but also an invitation to all Copenhageners, tourists, and guests to come together and celebrate this special occasion. Gatter emphasizes the importance of unity in these times and highlights the role of the royal family in bringing people together. “We live in a time where unity is more necessary than ever, and our royal family plays a central role in this,” he adds. Everyone is encouraged to visit Strøget next week to experience the festive atmosphere and the beautiful flags that symbolize national pride and community.
