Copenhagen University has announced that they are suspending all dialogue with the group of students who blocked access to the university buildings on Friday morning. This step comes after an intensified protest from the movement Students against Occupation, which aims to highlight the university’s policies and actions. The protest took place at Frue Plads, where around 36 students, spread across several entrances, expressed their dissatisfaction with the university management. According to one of the demonstrators, Lukas Rigillo, there has been a feeling that the university leadership has not been responsive to students’ concerns. “We don’t think they have been willing to listen to us,” says Rigillo, who is also a student at Copenhagen University. He adds that the negotiations, which seemed promising earlier in the week, were interrupted when the university leadership suddenly backed out of certain agreements. Rigillo, a member of Students against Occupation, clarifies that it is not this group that is behind the demonstration itself. He also emphasizes that he cannot reveal details of what the leadership specifically withdrew, as negotiators have been instructed not to discuss negotiation details with the press. This suspension of dialogue marks a temporary low point in the relationship between the student movement and the university administration. Copenhagen University has not yet commented further on the situation beyond their initial statement on the social platform X.
