Ringsted Municipality has a visionary plan to adjust to significant job losses. The municipality has reached out to the global pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk to establish a presence in the local area, where Danish Crown recently announced the closure of their slaughterhouse, resulting in the loss of approximately 1,200 jobs. “We thought this was an opportunity to dare to be proactive in the municipality,” said Andreas Karlsen, chairman of the Conservative group in the Ringsted city council, according to TV2 East.
This proactivity comes in the wake of the news that Danish Crown is closing its slaughterhouse in Ringsted, a decision that has hit the local community hard. Ringsted Municipality sees an opportunity in using the now-empty buildings formerly occupied by Danish Crown to attract Novo Nordisk. The hope is that a new major employer can create many much-needed jobs and thereby contribute positively to the local economy and social structure.
Media outlets have not yet been able to obtain a comment from Novo Nordisk regarding their interest in moving into the vacant facilities in Ringsted. However, the municipality remains optimistic and is willing to go to great lengths to realize this opportunity.
