Johan F. Krarup was honored on Saturday for the best Danish comic at the Pingprisen awards. He is the creator of the superhero satire “Robin Gets a Job”, which follows two young men disguised as superheroes trying to solve crimes in Copenhagen. The comic is a satire of the iconic duo Batman and Robin, and the jury praised Krarup for his formidable humor. The lines are precise, the timing perfect, and he manages to capture the awkward, embarrassing, and boundary-pushing moments, it was stated in the motivation for the award. Pingprisen recognizes the best Danish comics, and the new award was established by the Danish Comics Council and Nummer 9. The awards ceremony took place at the Islands Brygge Cultural Center in Copenhagen with Anders Lund Madsen as the host and entertainment in the form of a DJ and drag show.
In addition to Johan F. Krarup’s award, eight other awards were given out, including one to Weekendavisen’s Christoffer Zieler as “Journalistic Cartoonist of the Year” and to Anne Bomholt for “Best Danish Debut” with “Karl”. The honorary award was posthumously given to Jens Peder Agger, who passed away a few days before the awards ceremony. He was an activist, publisher, and author, and his legacy through series like “Linda and Valentin” and creating the Danish name for “The Smurfs” was also honored. The winners were selected by a jury consisting of comic book experts and cultural figures, including internet personality Rasmus Kolbe, also known as Lakserytteren.
