Danish Parties Call for Dansk Folkeparti to Exit Climate Law

Enhedslisten (Unity List) and De Radikale (The Radicals) are calling on Dansk Folkeparti (Danish People’s Party) to leave the climate law, as the party does not contribute to green policies, it is stated. Several parties now support Morten Messerschmidt and Dansk Folkeparti if they choose to withdraw from the agreement behind the climate law, following the threat of resigning. Samira Nawa, climate spokesperson for De Radikale, says: “If Dansk Folkeparti believes that climate policy should not have consequences for the lives of Danes, they should simply leave the agreement.” Morten Messerschmidt announced in Berlingske that the party will withdraw from the climate law if the CO2 tax on agriculture leads to job losses. Enhedslisten is also not worried about Dansk Folkeparti’s exit, as they rarely actively participate in meetings about climate agreements, says climate spokesperson Søren Egge Rasmussen. The climate law was praised for its broad support in 2019, but Samira Nawa believes that the agreement is weakened by Dansk Folkeparti’s participation, as the party is not green enough. Liberal Alliance has some understanding of Dansk Folkeparti’s criticism and believes that red politics are often unnecessarily mixed into climate initiatives. Specifically, last year’s flight tax, which was used to finance the pension check, is cited as an example that Liberal Alliance considers to be unrelated to the climate.
