When Royal Run is held on the second day of Pentecost, several streets in the host cities will be closed off until Monday evening. Nearly 100,000 Danes will lace up their running shoes on Monday to participate in this year’s Royal Run, which will have an impact on traffic conditions in the five host cities. The Danish Sports Federation (DIF) is issuing traffic recommendations for the different cities. Morten Mølholm Hansen, CEO of DIF and a member of the steering committee for Royal Run, states: “Information has been issued on how to best get to the city and what the traffic conditions are, depending on which city you are running in. Generally, the use of cars is discouraged, and instead, it is recommended to use public transport, bicycle, or walk to the starting points,” explained Morten Mølholm Hansen. The host cities this year are Aarhus, Brønderslev, Fredericia, Kalundborg, and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg. The route in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday. Traffic jams and parking difficulties are expected, as stated on the Royal Run’s website. Therefore, organizers advise against driving. Stopping and parking will be prohibited in several areas, including Amaliegade, Toldbodgade, Skt. Annæ Plads, and Holbergsgade, until 11 p.m. The city center of Brønderslev will also be affected by traffic closures until Monday evening. Carpooling is recommended in Aarhus, as there will be limited parking spaces. Royal Run offers three distances: 1.6 km, 5 km, and 10 km. The first Royal Run was held in 2018 in celebration of Crown Prince Frederik’s 50th birthday. This year, over 95,000 people have signed up, the highest number ever. The event is organized by the sports vision “Move for Life” in collaboration between the Danish Sports Federation, DGI, and the Danish Athletics Federation.
