Copenhagen University cuts ties with protesting students, press conference scheduled

Copenhagen University has interrupted the dialogue with the protesting students, who will hold a press conference later today. The movement Students Against Occupation will hold a press conference on Tuesday evening. This comes after Copenhagen University’s announcement to stop the dialogue with the students. The movement stated this in an email to Ritzau. The press conference will take place at 6 p.m. at the students’ tent camp in front of Copenhagen University (KU). The press conference is a reaction to the university’s decision to cut off any further dialogue with the students who have been demonstrating with a tent camp at KU. Previously, there was a dialogue between the students and the university’s leadership, which led to a concrete negotiation meeting between the parties. The students’ demands to KU were on the agenda. One of the six demands is that the university should ensure full financial transparency regarding their investments in companies associated with Israel. In addition, the movement demands that the university “acknowledge and condemn the ongoing genocide” of Palestinians. Despite KU interrupting the dialogue, the university has made four reflections based on the earlier dialogue with the students. This was stated in a press release from KU earlier on Tuesday. Among other things, the university acknowledges that it is “completely reasonable” for the university community to have insight into where the university’s funds are invested. This means that the university will “endeavor” to make its investment portfolio publicly available. Copenhagen University will also have a “continuous awareness” of not having investments that can be “considered conflicting with Danish foreign policy.”
