The Venstre (Left) parliamentary group was given the freedom to vote on the organ donation proposal. Two spokespersons voted against it. When a majority consisting of the government, as well as The Radical Left and The Alternative, voted in favor of a resolution to change the consent model for organ donation on Thursday, there was something unusual as there was not full agreement among one of the government parties. For two Venstre members, Louise Schack Elholm and Heidi Bank, voted against the proposal put forward by Venstre’s Minister of Health, Sophie Løhde. Louise Schack Elholm informed Ritzau that the Venstre parliamentary group was free to vote in the poll, calling it in a written comment “a proud tradition in Venstre that the group is free to vote on ethical issues.” – Sophie Løhde has handled it very well as Minister of Health, but the question of organ donation is a difficult ethical issue, and for ethical reasons in this particular case, I have used the freedom to vote on the issue and voted against the proposal, Louise Schack Elholm stated in the comment.
