Danish Parties Demand Strict Nature Protection Law from Government

The government has promised a nature law, but no measures have been presented in the area yet, say parties. Six parties will now demand that the government ensure that 10 percent of Danish land area is designated as strictly protected nature. This was announced by the alliance between SF (Socialist People’s Party), Liberal Alliance, Konservative (Conservative Party), Radikale (Radical Liberal Party), Enhedslisten (Red-Green Alliance), and Alternativet (The Alternative) Thursday morning. Pia Olsen Dyhr, chairman of SF, says: “The problem is that we currently have no strictly protected nature, and the government has no ambitions to achieve this. The proposal for more nature is based on EU requirements, where Denmark has committed to protect 30 percent of the land area with at least 10 percent in the category of ‘strictly protected’ nature. The government has also noted this in its government platform, where a ‘comprehensive law’ for nature and biodiversity is promised. But the government has not yet delivered on this, says Pia Olsen Dyhr. No measures have been presented in the area.
