Kosovo approves Danish prison agreement, boosting capacity for foreign criminals.

Kosovo has approved a Danish prison agreement. In 21 to 26 months, the first individuals sentenced to deportation can begin serving their sentences. After a lengthy process, Kosovo’s parliament on Thursday approved the Danish agreement to lease 300 prison spaces in the Southeast European country. The Ministry of Justice announced this in a press release. This will allow the renovation of the Gjilan prison to start, ensuring that it “meets Danish standards.” This is crucial in securing more prison spaces in Denmark and will help bring our heavily burdened prison system back into balance, said Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard (S) in the press release. At the same time, it sends a clear signal to criminal foreigners that their future is not in Denmark, and therefore they should not serve their sentences here. It will take 21 to 26 months before the first deported criminals can begin their sentences.
