In a recent election test, Stine Bosse, the lead candidate for the Moderates (Moderaterne) in the EU election, has declared herself completely in agreement with replacing the Danish krone with the euro. While the National Bank is in the process of issuing new coins adorned with King Frederik, the Moderates wish to change the Danish currency. Stine Bosse stated to Altinget that Danes currently pay about one percent in fees for currency exchange from kroner to euros. In addition, there are significant costs for hedging against exchange rate fluctuations, as well as a lot of administrative burden for Danish companies. Bosse emphasizes that this change should not happen within the upcoming five-year election period, but rather as a longer-term goal within the next 10-15 years. The Moderates are known as a pro-EU party and with this stance, they aim to create long-term political visions. However, the party stands alone in this desire. Most other political parties either declare themselves completely opposed or mostly opposed to the issue of replacing the krone with the euro, as reported by Altinget. Only the Alternative Party (Alternativet) partially agrees and argues that Denmark’s fixed exchange rate policy already ties the krone to the euro.
