Russian Border Guards Remove Buoys from Narva River Border

Russian border guards removed buoys from the Narva River on Thursday, which marks the border between Estonia and Russia. Denmark is closely following the situation concerning Russia’s removal of buoys on the border between Estonia and Russia. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen wrote on the social media platform X on Friday evening. Denmark stands in solidarity with our Estonian friends and continues the close cooperation with our allies and partners, he wrote.

Russian border guards carried out an operation early Thursday morning, removing 25 buoys from the Narva River, which marks the border between Estonia and Russia. The river is used to avoid accidentally entering foreign waters. The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the act as fitting into Russia’s generally provocative behavior, according to Politiken.

According to the Estonian government, tensions in the border area have escalated since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine. Russia has disputed the floating markers multiple times. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas on Friday following the incident.

NATO stands in solidarity with our ally Estonia against any threat to their sovereignty, he wrote on the social media platform X. afp/
