The controversial pro-Palestinian musician Isam B. has sued the debater Jaleh Tavakoli. According to Weekendavisen. Isam B., whose civil name is Isam Bachiri, demands 50,000 Danish kroner in compensation from Tavakoli, as well as a daily fine for defamation. The claim for compensation is based on a number of statements made by Jaleh Tavakoli on the social media platform X. Here, she has, among other things, called Isam Bachiri “a terrorist”. “Imagine sitting as a gender terrorist with rhythm and completely turning reality upside down and attacking the rest of us for being complicit in war. You approve of terrorism. You are a terrorist. Your religion calls for the extermination of Jews before doomsday. It is genocidal mainstream Islam – literalist Islam,” she wrote in response to an article that Isam Bachiri had published in Information. In the same thread, Jaleh Tavakoli calls Isam B. “brainwashed” and “dangerous”, and she believes that he “should be deported for his terrorist statements”. Isam Bachiri explains the background for the lawsuit to Weekendavisen: “As a long-time singer and artist, I appreciate criticism. But it is suffocating for democratic conversation to allow such personal attacks that Tavakoli directs at me. For many years – in misguided indifference and politeness – I have turned the other cheek and accepted that people cross my and society’s boundaries for what they may call each other,” he stated.
