Climate activists protest private jet flights in Denmark with campaign.

Activists want to focus on private jet flights with the campaign “Make Them Pay”. Climate activists from the activist groups Scientist Rebellion and Extinction Rebellion will be carrying out several actions at airports across the country on Saturday. The actions aim to focus on “overconsumption and climate destruction caused by private jets,” the groups write in a press release. This will be done through blockades and “creative happenings” at the airports in Kastrup, Billund, Sønderborg, and Karup. The blockades are part of the campaign “Make Them Pay”, which aims to highlight “the overconsumption and climate destruction by the ultra-rich.”

“We are in a climate crisis, and private jet flights are a luxury that we cannot afford. While Denmark brands itself as a green frontrunner, the number of private jets has quadrupled between 2020 and 2022, and a month ago airlines on domestic routes became exempt from VAT,” said Laura Horn from Scientist Rebellion, who is also a professor at Roskilde University (RUC). According to TV 2, a line of cars is forming in front of Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup, where activists are standing in the road with a banner that reads “Ban private jets.” The police are reportedly present at the scene.
