Heavy rain and possible cloudburst to hit Jutland on Sunday
The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning that heavy rain and possible cloudburst will hit especially the southern and western parts of Jutland on Sunday. According to DMI, there is a risk that the combination of warm and humid air, which characterizes the weather situation, could lead to cloudburst in several places in Jutland on Sunday afternoon. A cloudburst is defined as more than 15 millimeters of rain falling in just 30 minutes.
DMI states that it is particularly in the area from Southern Jutland heading north, over the western and central part of Jutland towards Thy, that there is a forecast for this heavy rain on Sunday. The warning, issued on Saturday evening, is valid from 12 o’clock on Sunday until 9 PM on the same day. During this period, there may be showers with 15 to 25 millimeters of rain in half an hour in some places, and thunderstorms may also occur.
In most of the country, there is also a chance of rain, but there is greater uncertainty about whether it will develop into a cloudburst. The only exception seems to be Bornholm, according to the warning issued on Saturday evening.
DMI describes the atmosphere over Denmark in the next day as explosive, and emphasizes that showers can suddenly appear and quickly become quite intense. If the forecast for cloudburst turns out to be correct, it will be the second time this year, according to TV 2. The first cloudburst of the year occurred on May 5th at Nødebo in North Zealand.
