Stricter Passport Rules for Travellers to Germany
If you are planning a trip across the German border during your summer vacation, you should pay extra attention to the new passport rules. Germany has implemented changes on May 13th that may prevent travellers from crossing the border if they do not meet the new requirements. Horsens Folkeblad reports that it is no longer possible to travel to Germany with a temporary or extended passport. Even though the border to Germany is open, you risk being stopped in a random check. Despite both countries being part of the Schengen Area, it does not mean that you can travel without a passport. You must have a valid passport with you and be able to present it if asked at the border. Failure to have a valid passport can result in a fine, especially if you are leaving Germany.
